GIE DEBOUTTE – UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LEUVEN - LIMBURG - BELGIUM

and through a variety of modern electronic devices/media. Cyberbullying presents challenges for school teams, teachers, school psychologists and social workers: they need to be able to prevent and intervene successfully with (cyber)bullying situations in schools.

Gie Deboutte is a Belgian expert in recent research and best practices in the field of (cyber)bullying. He clarifies the possible causes for bullying and explains the

consequences of (cyber)bullying behavior. Young people, parents, teachers and school administators can learn how to prevent or undo bullying behavior.

HELEEN BECUWE EN OONA WYNS – HOWEST – PEER SUPPORT VLAANDEREN (BE)

Peer Support – an effective method to prevent bullying in schools and to improve wellbeing of all students. Young people often answer their questions and problems with age or lifestyle peers (‘peers’). Peer support is a preventive method whereby young people support each other to promote a positive school climate. Peer supporters receive a training in which their competencies are strengthened to help others. Heleen Becuwe and Oona Wyns illustrate the benefits associated with peer support both for young people and for educators (e.g. youth workers, teachers, student counselors) and organizations (eg youth work, schools).
